Question by  Mikey35 (22)

Are there any laws which protect businesses from being harassed by debt collectors?

I know that there are laws in place to protect individual consumers, but what about if a business owes money?

Yes. There are definitely laws that can help you in this situation. You need to contact a lawyer, because you'll need help to file complaints. It's not as easy as complaining as an individual.

Yes. Laws will vary from individuals to businesses but there are guidelines and practices the collectors are supposed to follow. There are usually particular processes in which they must follow.

Yes, the same federal FDCPA laws which protect consumers from unethical debt collectors extend to the protection of sole proprietor businesses.

Filing for protection under the U. S. Bankruptcy Code will prevent creditors from harassing or continuing collection efforts against a business.
