Are small snakes good to keep as pets?

It really depends on what your motivation for keeping snakes is. If you're looking for a pet that you can hold, then no, not really. Smaller snakes are much more difficult to hold onto, which means they are more prone to injury if they try to escape your hands. They make good display pets.

Snakes escaping is really not the hardest part of taking care of them, as most aquariums are far to tall for young snakes to get out of easily. The hardest part is feeding them since they can be really picky eaters and will sometimes not eat if the food to them is to big.

I think small snakes are great pets. Garden snakes in particular are great pets for young kids or beginners because you can feed them bugs you catch from outside.
