Yes, but this sign of melanoma does not occur often. There is an "ABCD" rule that people use to determine if a mole is melanoma. "ABCD" stands for, Asymmetry, Border, Color, and Diameter.

Not necessarily. It could be minor skin irritation or a rash, or acne or any number of things, an ingrown hair, or an allergic reaction. If the red spot seems to not go away, then I would suggest seeing a dermatologist to know for sure.

In some cases, red spots are simply natural pigmentation that is common in fair-skinned people, most commonly those with Northern European ancestry. These spots can occur anywhere on the body, but more frequently on the upper torso. They are painless and harmless. If you're uncertain, consult a physician.

An irregularly shaped mole that is either tan, black, brown, red or pink can become cancerous. If a mole changes in size, shape, color, texture, or if it bleeds, it could be melanoma.
