They are not exactly the same, but lots of people call them gophers. Prairie dogs are generally a little larger than pocket gophers. They both are rodents and do the same type of damage to property. Gophers will destroy your garden and trees by eating the roots.They also tear the ground up with their tunnels.

Yep, they are virtually the same thing. Sometimes gophers are a little larger though, but they are otherwise virtually identical.
