Are nausea and constipation related?

It seems like you would only have one or the other.

Nausea and constipation are definitely related. If the bowel is too full of digested but not eliminated food and there has been no bowel movement for several days nausea will start to set in. Try stool softeners or foods high in fiber with LOTS of water to get things moving.

Generally, these two symptoms are unrelated to each other. However, it is possible to have both at the same time if you are sick with two difference illnesses at once. For instance, if you had food poisoning and the flu at the same time, there is a very good likelihood that you would be both nauseous and constipated.

Nausea can come from stomach sickness, but can also be completely unrelated. If you are constipated, then you are unable to relieve some of the toxins that may be leading to your nausea, and thus you can use a stool softner to cure the problem. Sometimes, however, nausea can be related to motion or other issues, unrelated to constipation.
