Are mites and scabies the same thing? How do you know which is which?

Mites cause scabies. They burrow under the skin and cause intense, allergic itching. Treatments include lotions and oral medications, depending on the extent of the infestation.

Mites and scabies are very different. Mites, like dust mites or even bed bugs leave bites that show themselves as small red pin marks. Hardly noticeable to the naked eye without closer examination. But scabies show themselves in large red blotches which even itch and scab over hence where they get their name from.
