Metal shakes should last longer than the shingles will usually at least 2 or 3 cycles which means they will last between 40 and 60 years.

I never spent much time thinking about roofs till there was an 80 mile wind in my area. My roof was destroyed. Metal shakes are a great - they are much less weight than stone but as durable.
