Are gas trimmers the best ones to use?

It really depends on what sort of work you are doing. Are you a "recreational" gardener? Do you just have a few hedges that needs trimming? If you just have small amount of work that needs to be done, then you'd probably be better off with electric or battery powered. Gas would be better if you have a large workload.

I prefer the gas trimmers. I don't like having to drag a cord around or having to use it when things are damp. I like the freedom the gas trimmer aloows and I believe that it has alittle more power then the electric models. Never have to worry about slicing the cord either.
