Are dachshunds good dogs for children?

Dacshunds are very loyal dogs to their own families. If they are around their own family's children they are really great pets. They become very protective of their family. They are okay with other children. But as with all breeds of dogs, its best to keep a close eye out when the dog and kids are playing together.

Consider the age of the children before any small dog is brought into the home, very young children have a tendency to chase, pick up and carry small dogs, scaring or even hurting them. The dog may bite in its own defense. Explaining proper dog treatment for older children and proper supervision should render the dachshunds excellent for families.

While all dogs need discipline, yes, dachshunds are indeed very good for small children. Dachshunds are playful and energetic, yet they are also wonderfully temperate, and are loyal to their guardians.
