I'm glad you asked that bc I'm almost 8 weeks postpartum and my menstrual cycle is a dark brown as well! I'm breastfeeding, but since he's already sleeping through the night I heard it was normal to have a cycle this early.

If you cycle is brown, you may have a very light flow. Brown blood is old blood. As long as there isn't a smell, and you aren't feeling cramping, or uncomfortable, things are most likely normal. If you are still concerned as always, be sure to contact your doctor!

If your blood flow is not terribly fast the blood may have time to oxidize and become a dark red or brown color, especially on the last days of bleeding.

1. Your menstrual cycle is late, and the fluid is dried menstrual blood. 2. You have had an early miscarriage. 3. If you have used many feminine hygiene products, this could cause internal irritation that has resulted in this out flow. 4. There could be an internal inflammation or infection. If it occurs for another cycle, see a doctor.

A dark brown menstrual cycle is indication of old blood, while a bright red color blood is an indication of new blood.

That sounds perfectly normal. Because a woman's menses are made up of clotted blood that has sloughed off the inside of the uterus, it is not generally bright red like fresh blood.
