Most likely the reason that your cycle is not regular is due to stopping your birth control pills. Birth control pills contain hormones that affect your menstrual cycle. Your body also produces these hormones in different quantities. It will take some time for your body to regulate itself again.

After an extended use of birth control, sometimes it takes a long time to get your periods straightened out. Stress can mess up your cycle as well as your diet or excessive exercise.

Going off of birth control can cause your cycle to be off for 3-6 months. Changes in hormones cause cycle fluctuations so other medications, increase or decrease in your weight, and of course pregnancy can cause a late cycle.

One cause of an unpredictable menstrual cycle is recently going off your birth control, as is stress. So try not to worry about it too much just yet. Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome will cause irregular, usually late, periods. This only applies if it happens over a long period of time.

Menstruation really depends on related hormones such as estrogens and progesterones. Birth control pills contain those hormones and, of course, can affect menstrual cycle. when u start or stop using the pills, your body has to adapt with hormones rate changes, and maybe so does the menstrual cycle affected by that.

Your body may be trying to adjust without the birth control pills. Stress, pregnancy, drugs, infection and cysts are other possibilities of why you may not be menstruating. Take a pregnancy test just to be sure you are not pregnant. An obgyn will have a better understanding on what is going on with your particular body.

You body will probably have to get used to being given the progestone that is in those pills and learn once again to produce it on its own. You could be pregnant, but you would probably know that. Anytime you get off birth control this normally happens.
