Yes, having owned the Suzuki Sidekick/Geo Tracker, I would definately put the money into a good replacement used engine. As long as the vehicle is worth spending the money on in the first place. There are a lot of these vehicles out there so the price should be under 500

I would buy a used tracker engine only after doing my homework. Go take a look at the engine check the block for visible cracking. Have the owner pull the oil pan, this alows you to check the bottom end for bearing wear or damage .After my checks I would buy it if all is well.

The only time I would by a secondhand engine like that is if I knew exactly the condition it was in or planned to rebuild it later. It could have a ton of miles or have been treated badly.
