Would a faulty kickdown cable prevent gear change above 2nd gear?

It could. A kickdown cable enables a transmission to shift efficiently in response to the pressure you put onto the accelerator. You operate the kickdown cable manually using the gas pedal. If your kickdown cable is faulty, you may not be able to properly downshift shift gears at higher speeds.

sometimes gear change is caused by internal problems in the transmission. have a mechanic check the onboard computer in the vehicle. it could be a sensor in the transmission itself.
