Unlikely. If your cat is throwing up blood, he may have swallowed a foreign object such as a sewing needle or possibly a length of string. See a vet quickly.

A hairball can be abrasive, so some blood in a cat's vomit could be a result of a hairball scratching the cat's stomach or esophagus. However, any significant amount of blood would definitely mean something more serious. Even a small amount of blood is unusual enough that a veterinarian should check it out, however.

I have three cats and of all the times that they've had hairballs, they've never coughed up blood. Usually, if they have a hairball, fur and some food will come out. If your cat's coughing up blood, you should take it to the vet immediately.

Bring the cat to the vet immediately! If kitty is coughing up blood, a hairball is likely the least of its problems!! There could be many reasons, some not critical when a cat throws up blood. But be sure-call the vet or your local animal hospital and bring kitty in to see what's happening.

My cat just coughed up a large hairball. There is another place where some blood came up. She just did it again and coughed up a clear mucusy liquid splotchy with blood. Is this from a hairball?
