Will wet rot in the limb of a maple tree cause the tree to die?

If it is only in the limb then, probably not. If the rot is in the root system then the maple tree will most likely die. A solution to this would be to plant the tree a little higher than the ground. This will allow for adequate drainage.

Verticillium is a wilting disease that can cause the tree to die. The fungus enters the roots and closes the water conducting vessels in roots and limbs. The tree can have this disease for years as it resides in the soil. Cut affected parts and gather up all debris. Pruning can help keep open areas for sun and air.

It shouldn't if the tree itself is healthy but if you are really concerned about it my best advice to you would be to cut the infected limb off from the tree and paint the cut so it can't travel through out the tree.

Yes- Wet Rot can cause a tree to die a slow horrible death. This can be prevented by simply cutting off the infected limb. Cut the limb as close to the base as possible.

As long as it does not spread from the affected outer limb, the tree will be fine. Make sure it does not spread, you will have a lot of worry if it spreads to the roots.

Unfortunately, wet-rot can kill a maple tree. If it is in the limb of the tree and not near the trunk you can cut off the limb and hope that the dis-ease has not followed the sap to the internal trunk. It will take its time before it dies.

Wet rot could cause the limbs that have it to die slowly. It would probably be best to cut the limb with rot off and seal the fresh cut well.

No. It may cause the limb to die and then fall down. This stress on the tree however, could potentially cause the tree to die.

It may cause the tree to die. The only known treatment is to trim the limbs 10-12 inches behind the affected area.
