The US electrical system uses a 120 volts 60 hz electricity grid, but the Japanese uses a 100 volt and 50(east) or 60(west) hz electricity grid, so you should use an adapter to change the current and make the socket fit. There are ungrounded adapters available for $4 and grounded for $7 to be ordered on-line.

Your appliances will still work, HOWEVER they will work much slower than they do here so a electronic converted is highly recommended and can be picked up at any local electronic business.

The Japanese use 50 hertz while the U.S. 60 hertz electrical systems. In order for the appliances to work properly, you will need a converter.
