Cars run completely out of gas will have completely exhausted the fuel available in all lines, pumps and filters. Given time, the fuel-pump should automatically prime when turning-over.

When your car ran out of gas it could have starved your fuel pump. This could have be be a contributor... there is no fuel in the fuel pump/filter/lines. You could possibly try to turn the car onto right before the ON position for about 2 minutes to let your fuel pump try and prime.

Running the fuel pump dry might have damaged the fuel pump. Fuel presure can be checked at the fuel bar going to the injectors. If you are not getting fuel to this point with the ignition turned on you may need to replace the fuel pump.

It may be possible the gas tank is clogged with the gunk from sucking the bottom of your gas tank. It might be a good idea to clean that. Also check the fuel pump because sucking air is not good for that either.
