Why is there smoke coming out of my laptop fan?

It could be something as simple as dust, or as complex as a bused system. Any time you see smoke coming from a computer, take it in for service right away. I always keep a spare hard drive case in the event that I have to remove my computer hard drive - makes life easier.

There are many possible sources of smoke from your computer. However, all of these are serious problems. If your computer is hot, do not keep it on a bed or other soft surface and make sure to use a fan. Get tech support right away before it breaks! Your laptop depends on you.

This is generally not a good sign. Something inside the laptop is burning. Turn it off immediatly, and then take it in for repair. If it's out of warrenty, you may want to take the back cover off, and check the ducts, and air vents. These may be lodged, or blocked. Airflow is important, and any obstructions should be removed.

One of two reasons; either your computer has accumulated a significant amount of dust near the fan and it resembles smoke, or your computer is overheating.

Your laptop fans could be going out. Orthere is a fire in it. You would need to take it to someone who knows how to fix it.
