Why is there a 6-month time limit of durable power of attorney?

There is no six-month rule. A durable power of attorney is a POA that is sustained through the illness or incompetency of the principal, allowing the agent to act on his/her behalf during that time. Any limit on any POA would be written into it initially.

This is meant to insure that the power of attorney is in the best interest of the individual upon whom the power is exercised. It is the state insuring the best interest and protection, and I believe it is the best example of how the state works in our interests. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
