Why is my outboard's motor smoking?

If it uses pre=mixed fuel then you probably added too much oil to the gas. It could also be a problem with the carburetor.

There are a couple of reasons that this could be happening, one of them is that you haven't been adding oil to your engine regularly.

When any type of engine is smoking it usually means you have something being burnt off in the cylinder. If it is a blueish color the it is oil. A white sweet smelling smoke indicates coolant burning. Either way the engine should be checked out by a mechanic.

It is possible that an outboard motor will normally smoke, even excessively, during idle due to idling or trolling for a long time or the use of a high-smoke oil.

you motor may be smoking because of several reasons. your choke could be stuck in on position. you also may have a fuel problem. the motors computer could be bad.
