Why is my guy so quiet when we are alone, but can't stop talking when with his friends?

Either he doesn't feel pressure to impress you because he feels comfortable around you, or you guys don't really have that much in common.

That music you hear behind a video game. It sets the mood. Most of that talk is just "game music". I'm fortunate in that my wife understands about this and has learned how to participate in the ongoing meaningless mood talk, but getting used to a woman who did this was, frankly, really weird. Good now, but at first, weird.

It's possible he doesn't feel he has a lot to say to you. Do you share the same interests as he does with his friends? It's also possible that he is really a quiet person who feels pressured to interact. So he's being he true self with you.

he may feel like he needs other people around him to look good in front of you. Maybe he is afraid he is boring without friends.
