Why is my cat tearing out his hair?

Typically this is due to itchy skin from fleas, mites, ringworm infection, or allergies. When cats are allergic their skin itches. Cats may also pull hair out due to stress.

Vets call this barbering. He could be stressed -- is there something new in his environment such as a new pet, person or a new home all together? More seriously, it could be that his bladder or other organ is bothering him. If you cannot think of a new stressor, take him to a vet!

This could be many different things, from a rash or sickness on the skin, to an allergy that is driving your cats nuts, to stress. Your best bet is to get it into a vet and have some tests done.

It could be that he is sick, or it could be that he has developed a nervous habit. I would take him to the vet to get the real reason.
