Copper is a good conductor because it is a metal with low resistance. This means that electrons can move easily through the material, and moving electrons is what makes electricity. In other elements, the electrons are more tightly bound to individual atoms, but in copper they form more of a cloud and can move around.

Electricity moves through a material by transferring from one electron to another. If that material does not have readily available electrons - such as rubber or cloth - the electricity cannot move. Copper has free electrons making it a fantastic conductor.
