Why is a baby-preventing diaphragm named the same as your body part?

Do they both serve a similar purpose?

Technically speaking, a diaphragm is any type of membrane that closes off an enclosure. The diaphragm used for contraception is a thin, plastic membrane that covers the cervix and blocks the entry of sperm into the uterus. The thoracic diaphragm is a thin, muscular structure that separates the thorax from the abdomen and serves to adjust pressure in the chest.

No the diaphragm in your body is a part associated with your lungs, you use it to breathe . The birth control diaphragm or female condom as it is widely referred to is used to prevent pregnancy only , not std's. They share the same name only because they protect something.
