Why does our society produce so much waste?

Because we consume so much. The more things we buy, the more packaging is needed, and then the more we waste. I also think that we don't always realize how much we waste. If our rubbish didn't just 'disappear' once a week, but actually stuck around, we might change.

The problem is, that nowadays people don't repair or reuse old things anymore, instead buying a new item is often by far cheaper or easier. Most products are not used up til it's end of lifecycle. Then a lot products are imported from far and that again involves packaging stuff.

Society produces so much waste because people have a 'live for today' philosophy, and do not care about future generations. If the citizens of this great planet thought how their actions of not recycling for one affects our future children and the land they live in.
