Why does my ceiling have a slow drip of water?

You most likely have a leak or weak spot in your roof allowinf precipitation in or you could have a leak in your plumbing somewhere.

That would be caused by a slow leak in a water pipe that runs either between floors or through your attic over the spot where the ceiling is leaking.

Damaged or worn shingles can cause slow water leaks. Another possible cause could be a gutter or drain overflow which can be the result of blockage.

Check the isolation of the ceiling (may be the water is coming from your the people above you, epically if you are under their kitchen or bathroom).
