Why does my back hurt on the lower right side?

Answer by  MedStudent01 (1131)

You've either strained a muscle in your back or must have caused some soreness there by sleeping awkwardly or overexercising it. Relax your back, take some ibuprofen, and do some gentle strengthening exercises. If it continues to get worse, see your family doctor.

You may have pulled a lumbar muscle in that region when doing heavy lifting. This can also be indicative of a kidney stone or urinary tract infection.

One serius cause could be your appendix. Check with a doctor quickly. Kidney stones could also cause this pain. The other cause I have seen is that your back is out of alighnment. Hopefully this helps.

Most people are right-handed; it could very easily be stress from the way you sit in order to have right-hand mobility. See your doctor if it worsens.

Some reflex action or wrong sleeping or sitting position or lifting heavy material or cramp or accidental fall on right side could be the causes.

Your back may hurt on the lower right side if you have a herniated disk at l5 s1 and could be a chronic problem, I had this happen to me and had to have surgery to remove the disc in my back two times, without the surgery I would not be walking today.

The right side of lower back pain hurts badly because of infection in kidney. For this person need to consult the doctor as soon as possible and ask for further treatment. Some times surgery is best possible to take away pain.
