It isn't just your tongue. Once you have herpes, you have it everywhere. Perhaps herpes presents itself on your tongue through some sort of sore, but it can also do that on other parts of your body. Are you sure it's herpes? Perhaps you just have cold sores or a blister in your mouth.

It is a latent infection so the virus cannot get eliminated. Maybe you got it at a early age and you cant remember it or it was an asymptomatic infection. After that the infection keeps silent and can express as herpes if you have strong emotions, imnunodepression, cold, etc.

Herpes is a virus that could be in your body and break out on your tongue. You can also get herpes by touching something that someone else has touched and you transfer it to your body.
