Why do we have a time change in the US?

It's not necessary. Arizona doesn't do it.

It was first brought around by Ben Franklin. The reasoning behind it was to allow more daylight time with the change of seasons for farmers. Instead of the farmers working at 6 am in the dark, it allows them to work at 6am in the daylight. Not much farming goes on in Arizona, thats why they dont have it.

The original motivation for Daylight Savings was to reduce energy usage -- by having an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon during the summer people use less energy for their lights. However, this push forward creates a problem in the winter (when it would lead to a sunrise after workers and children left the house), so we shift back.

The US adopted a time change so that farmers in a more agricultural lifestyle could have extra daylight later in the day so they could work in the fields longer.
