Why do teachers prohibit chewing gum in school?

Most teachers who prohibit gum chewing don't actually have a problem with the gum itself. The reason why most teachers forbid students from chewing gum is because the gum ends up either under a desk or on the floor. So they're really just trying to prevent cleaning it up later.

There is no harm in chewing gum in school the problem is with he students who have a desire to place the gum on the underside of the desktop where it becomes to the pants of leg of the next student.
