First the gum base is melted and cleaned (dirt/bark removed). The gum base slowly has other natural ingredients like sugar, corn syrup and flavoring(ie; cinnamon)added to the mixture till it thickens (like a dough). Gum is shaped, molded and cut. Covered in a powdered sweetener to keep from sticking to the machines or packaging. Then packaged/shipped.

It depends on if you are dealing with Natural Or Synthetic, for this example I will cover natural Chewing gum. They first obtain Rainforest Chicle or other natural Chicle, then combine that with Cane sugar, Syrup, Gum Arabic, some type of wax and other natural flavors. This is the way Chewing gum used to made.

Chewing gum is made out of a sap that comes off the sapodilla tree, Chicle it was called. Chicle was introduced by Indians to which Mexicans and New England settlers would chew it right off the trees. Until after WW2 Chicle was replaced by artificial rubbers made with sugar to give it more flavoring and taste.

I think most modern gums are made out of synthetic materials - you would have to search around if you wanted one made out of the natural stuff.  add a comment
