Why do rivers flow north to south?

Rivers flow in various directions. For instance the Nile flows from central Africa up north to the Meditteranian see, while the Amazon river flows from the west toward the east, and so does the Danube in Europe. Mississippi river tho, does flow from the north to the south.

Generally, it's due to topography. However, and this must be mentioned, some rivers do flow from south to north.

The flow of a river is related to its starting elevation and path of least resistance to the lowest elevation, not specificaly related North to South.
