Everyone I know is scared of the doctor but we don't have a fear of other professions like teachers. Why is it unique with doctors?
People fear doctors because of the power doctors have over them. Doctors seem to have all the answers and these relate to the most basic of fears- life and death.
It is known as white coat syndrome and it may be because people equate doctors with bad news and death.
It is because, unlike teachers, they touch the physical part of a person's lives and that is uncomfortable for most people. Also, they are associated in one's mind with death.
