Deciduous trees grow best in a temperate climate, where both the average daily temperature and light duration vary. In the autumn, the days get colder, leaves turn brown and fall.

There are many causes for trees to have brown leaves. Nutrition and certain major and /or minor minerals might be lacking such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. Excessive amounts of nutrients can also cause browning of the leaves. Another reason might be just its natural process, like shedding leaves for winter.

It is so obvious, you know. the leaves are decaying. If you have a decidious tree they are supposed to turn brown and fall. If it is in the middle of the summer, it is a conifer.

Trees leaves change colors with the season. The shorter our days become the less sunlight all plants receive which causes the change in foliage.

Either it is fall and they are young so the leaves are brown, or it is over watered, under watered or it died. Check to see if the stems are still green maybe the tree is sick and it will recover. Leave alone until you know it is really dead it might just be resting.

This may be natural growth, check if new leaves are growing in. If not, you have the usual checklist: Not enough light, too much heat, too little water, too little humidity. If too little water (most common) this will happen from the bottom leaves up.

In the north, it is common for deciduous trees to have their leaves turn brown, and then fall off. In non-seasonally affected areas, disease, lack of light or water, or even the age of the tree could cause browning.
