There is a condition called slipping rib syndrome. It is kind of rare. Sometimes there is an underlying condition. One of those conditions is called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It has to do with a genetic defect in the collagen. That is the 'glue' that holds things together.

In skinny people ribs can be seen during the course of normal breathing and that is normal and should not be considered a problem.

If there any injury happened in the shoulder or back will cause for popping out the ribs. Not only this cause but also improper sitting or standing position also cause for the same. immobilize it and let the cartilage/ligaments heal and re-fuse your rib back in place. Thi type of patient need to take copmplete rest for 3-4 weeks.

You may have hurt or broken/fractured in the past. Try taking it easy. Avoiding stressing your ribs/back. Bed rest for several weeks would be ideal. Your doctor can do scans that will allow them to see what is going on or you might try going to a chiropractor. They can pop things back in place and continue adjusting your ribs.
