Mice fight as a natural way of life. Many times they live in colonies and this is a way to establish dominace. This is just like most animals in the animal kingdom. They also do it as a form of playing.

Most likely both of the mice are male and are trying to gain dominance in the area where you have placed them, especially if there is a female present at the time.

Check to make sure they aren't the same sex. If you have a male and female the living quarters may be too small. Give them more room, add a box or two for hiding so they can have space away from each other. There should be plenty of food at all times. They will fight over food if they're hungry.
