Why do I have different glasses and contacts prescriptions?

It seems like to me they would be the same.

Eyeglasses sit on the face a distance from the eyes. Contact lenses are place directly on the pupil and the prescription is adjusted according to the curve or vex of the pupil. Because of the difference in distance and the contacts making direct contact with the eye, hence the name "contacts" herein lies the reason for a different prescription.

This has to do with the distance of the lens from your eye. The glasses need more refraction as they are farther from your eye than the contact lens.

Yes both contacts and eye glasses have different prescriptions. You will want to visit an optometrist for proper contact prescription and sizing. The diameter is important for contact sizing and that is not taken during a normal eye glass exam. Different brands of contacts work differently for people with different issues and sized eyes.
