The main cause of pain behind the eyes is sinus pressure. Try taking a decongestant to see if that relieves the pressure.

Vision problems can cause this. Such as near-sightedness, far-sightedness, or astigmatism. Try to see a doctor, until then buy a pair of reading glasses so you won't strain your eyes.

It sounds like you need your vision tested. Bad vision, causes strain when reading and doing other activities and may commonly cause this type of pain.
