Siegmund Salzman, a Hungarian Jew, wrote the "Bambi, ein Leben im Walde" ("Bambi, a Life in the Woods")under the pen name Felix Salten. Hitler banned the story in 1936.

"Bambi" was written in German in 1923 by the Austrian writer, Felix Salten, and translated into English in 1928. Salten was born in Hungary in 1869, but moved as an infant to Vienna, where he lived for most of his life. In addition to "Bambi," Salten write "Bambi's Children: the Story of a family" and other stories about animals.
