Jean-Jacques Rousseau was French philosopher and helped to start the French Revolution. David Hume was a Scottish philosopher and a very well known historian. John Locke, a political philosopher, was a British scholar and is considered to be one of the most influential thinkers of the Enlightenment.

Voltaire was a free-thinking philosopher of the Enlightenment. Hobbes was a political philosopher of the period. Other men of the time include Baron de Montesquieu and Jean Jacques Rousseau.
