While Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, reached enlightenment in about 450 BCE, Buddhists believe that the cycle of learning has happened many times before, possibly at the beginning of time itself. 450 BCE would be the best estimate of this Buddha Era, although the cycle of Buddhist philosophy would suggest the founding of Buddhism would be immeasurable by its nature.
