John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison played in the group The Quarrymen between 1957-1960. In 1960, Stuart Sutcliffe joined them on bass, and they changed their name to "The Beatles" as a tribute to Buddy Holly. They were joined by drummer Pete Best in August of 1960. Sutcliffe left in 1961. In 1962, Best was replaced by Ringo Starr.
