Vasco da Gama was a famous Portuguese explorer, who lived from 1460 to 1524. He was the first commander of a ship to sail from Europe to India completely by sea, as previously the route had been at least partially over land.
Vasco da Gama was born in Portugal in 1460 or 1469. His chief claim to fame was as an explorer and sailor. He was believed to be one of the first to command ships that sailed from Europe to India. He was capable of torturing those he saw as opponents.
