Ruth Handler was Barbie's creator. Barbie made her debut in 1959. She was modeled after a German doll known as Lilli. Lilli was a cartoon for adult entertainment in a German daily newspaper. Lilli was mostly known for her large breasts and hourglass figure. Millions of Barbies have been sold the world over.

in all my years i have never heard that baribie dolls were based on a prostitute. I highly believe that is just one of many rumors about Barbie dolls. Barbie was created my Matel.
