Cipe Pineles was a magazine editor, illustrator and advocator for women's rights. She was a pioneer in editorial design in the 1940's and 1950's. She single handedly contributed too many firsts in the world of graphic design and arts. She was an immigrant was Austria and was brought to America where she attended the Pratt Institute.

Cipe Pineles was the first woman art director of mass-media magazines, and the first to hire fine artists to work for them. She worked for "Glamour", "Seventeen" and "Mademoiselle".
