There are several saints with education-related patronages: St. Thomas Aquinas is the patron saint of schools, while St. Benedict is the patron saint of schoolchildren, and St. Venerable Bede and St. Brigid of Kildare are both considered the patron saint of scholars. St. Albert the Great is the patron saint of scientists.

There are several patron saints of students: Catherine of Alexandria, Thomas Aquinas, and Gabriel Possenti. Aquinas is a doctor of the church, or important foundational teacher of the faith.
