There are many famous poets who have written explicitly Christian poetry. In British literature, the most prominent Christian poets are Gerard Manley Hopkins, George Herbert, Henry Vaughan, Thomas Traherne, Emily Bronte, Christina Rossetti, John Milton, and John Donne. In American literature, Christian poets include John Greenleaf Whittier and Anne Bradstreet.

Two contemporary poets come to mind: Luci Shaw and Ann Weems. Other well-known poets of the past who wrote about the Christian faith and experience are John Donne, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Thomas Merton.
