Nail polish is an ancient product. Chinese and Egyptians used different types of substances to color their nails as early as the first millenium BC.

Nail polish has a long history. Evidence of its use dates back to China in 3000BC where gelatin, bees wax, egg whites and gum arabic were combined with crushed flower petals to make the paint. Modern nail polish was invented by a 1920s makeup artist named Michelle Menard who adapted the properties of auto paint to enhance feminine beauty.
