There are so many famous writers. Some classic literary geniuses that would be interesting to do a paper on would include Hemmingway, Cooper, Twian, Steinbeck, Thoreau, Emerson, Hawthorne, Melville, Alcott, Shelley, and Tolstoy. If you are in need of a more modern author, you may want to consider Morrison, King, Franzen, or Rowling.

There are many. James Joyce is considered a true genius, but he is hard to read. Some consider Kurt Vonnegut to be a genius, and he is simple to read. Leo Tolstoy is a safe choice. Steinbeck is considered on the greatest American writers, as is Mark Twain.
