Which would win if a hippo fought a lion?

That depends on some things. Are they both adults, in good health and in the animals normal range? And adult male lion might be able to take a baby hippo that is unguarded. But other wise the hippos tough skin, massive size and agility in water favors it to win.

Suprisingly, the hippo would most likely win. The hippo is known for its aggressive behavior, and is considered the most dangerous animal in Africa. Lions may have sharp teeth and claws, but the hippo has a thick protective hide, and a large weight advantage (3000-4000lbs vs 550lbs max). One lion against one hippo would be little contest.
